1950′s Retro Pin-Up shoot in Leonardtown Maryland

I had been looking forward to pulling together a pin-up shoot using vintage cars, and last night it finally happened!  The boys from St. Mary’s Rod and Classic came through for me.  I could not have done it without them and their parade of cars.  Shannon and Josette were my beautiful models for the night with Summer Owen as lighting assistant. I also had Chris Paige with us shooting a video, and I’m dying to see the finished product.   I’ll be sure to post the video on the blog as soon as editing is complete.  Thank you everyone so very much.   Here are the results of our hard work.  Enjoy!

So You Want to be a Model?

So you want to be a model?

I’ve worked with a lot of them over the past few years and the one thing I can tell you is it isn’t always about the looks. The most beautiful girl doesn’t necessarily make the best model. What does? Being able to move and project what the photographer is looking for. It is a lot like acting.

Case in point, I worked with another photographer teaching lighting workshops. He would bring in two girls for each class to model for the students. During one particular class we had a very beautiful brunette who was trying out for Playboy. The second model was cute and blonde, but not as strikingly beautiful as the brunette.  At first, the photographers flocked to the brunette, wanting to shoot her first.  That is, until the girls began to model. The blonde blew the brunette away with her modeling skills. She was simply amazing! Of all the models I’ve worked with she really stands out in my mind.  It didn’t take long for all the photographers to notice how good she was and they all started crowding, wanting to shoot her. We eventually had split the students up and make some of them go back to photograph the brunette.  Knowing how to move in front of the camera and revealing your personality goes much further than a pretty face alone.

I still occasionally use models for personal projects. Feel free to send me your photo if you would like to be considered for one of these shoots.  You never know what look I’m searching for.  Models should always have a clear head shot without a lot of makeup and a full length body shot so photographers can see what you look like. If you are interested in modeling you can set up a profile on sites like www.modelmayhem.com , which is where we found most of our models for the workshops.

The Boudoir Photography Network has a Sister Site!

That’s right, I’ve recently launched the Children’s Photography Network The site lists some of the best Children’s Photographers in the country.  While I’m really proud of how quickly the Photography Network sites have grown and how well they have been received by my fellow photographers,  all the extra work has put me way behind in my personal photography business.  Here it is almost 4 A.M on a Friday morning and I’m still awake with a ton of things I need to  finish! The New blog is under construction as you can see. It will go through a lot of changes over the next two weeks. Until then it is going to be a bit of a mess.

I’ve been shooting quite a few boudoir shoots at the Maryland studio recently. You girls are fit and tan after the long summer and ready to show off those hot bodies you worked so hard for.   Don’t forget make your appointment early if you need your boudoir or Pin-up  photos for the holidays! It is time for a few sexy pictures!

Couples Boudoir Photography

Boudoir photography has branched out in several different directions over the past few years.  Couples contacting boudoir photographers and requesting sexy photos together has becoming quite common.  When a couple is deeply in love they often want to capture that love in images.  These are usually fun and flirty but some clients may want to do a bit of role-play with things like blind folds and hand cuffs, perhaps some nudity.  How far it goes depends on how comfortable the photographer is with your request. You should be forthright and tell them what you are looking for. Most photographers are very open minded.  It’s important to find a photographer that is a good fit for you.

I recently saw some amazing photos of a woman with breast cancer, and her husband. The woman was nude and her husband was lovingly caressing her. She wanted the photographs so she could always remember what her body was like before she became ill.  These black and white images were powerful and moving. I’ll never forget them; you could see the sorrow in her eyes and the love in his.  I’ll try to find images like these to share with all of you at a later date.
