That’s right, I’ve recently launched the Children’s Photography Network! The site lists some of the best Children’s Photographers in the country. While I’m really proud of how quickly the Photography Network sites have grown and how well they have been received by my fellow photographers, all the extra work has put me way behind in my personal photography business. Here it is almost 4 A.M on a Friday morning and I’m still awake with a ton of things I need to finish! The New blog is under construction as you can see. It will go through a lot of changes over the next two weeks. Until then it is going to be a bit of a mess. I’ve been shooting quite a few boudoir shoots at the Maryland studio recently. You girls are fit and tan after the long summer and ready to show off those hot bodies you worked so hard for. Don’t forget make your appointment early if you need your boudoir or Pin-up photos for the holidays! It is time for a few sexy pictures! ~Robin~

The new term is Boudoir. Many women don’t know what the word boudoir means in terms of photography. In the eighty’s it was called Glamour shots, which was a franchise that popped up in many malls around the country. Lots of women in their 40’s and 50’s still search for that term on the Internet when they are thinking of having photos taken. Others search the words sexy or intimate photos. They know what they want but they are not sure what it is called. We photographers are working hard to get the term Boudoir photography recognized by the general public. It is starting to catch on. I have seen a dramatic increase in woman looking for boudoir photographers in the past year. It’s why I started The Boudoir Photography Network. I hope that The boudoir Photography Networks blog with its photos and videos, will inspire you and give you ideas you can use for your own boudoir or Pin-up photography session. We hope the behind the scenes videos will answer some of your questions on what it is like to experience a boudoir shoot. At my studio here in Maryland things are very relaxed, which helps ease some of the nervousness most girls feel. I never overbook the day, leaving lots of time in-between clients so they never feel rushed or pushed out the door. You can visit my website at www.robinowen.com I’ located in Southern Maryland and shoot women for Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia. My recent client was nice enough to allow me to post a few of her photos from last weeks boudoir photography shoot. The shoot took place in my southern Maryland photography studio. The studio is set up to for boudoir sessions with beds, chairs, a leopard skin rug and lots of pillows! I wanted to try something a little bit different and break out of my normal routine. A few large mirrors and a tube of bright red lipstick, gave us some interesting and fun shots. Sorry but I can only show you one. If you are a boudoir photographer you may want to try this on your next boudoir or pin- up photo shoot.

Boudoir doesn’t have one look, there are many different styles and degrees. You can keep it very sweet and mild, or more suggestive and erotic. It’s important that you find a photographer you can relate to. You have to be able to tell them exactly what you want without being shy about it. You don’t want to find out the day of your session that your photographer doesn’t want to do topless or bottomless photos if that is what you are looking for. I usually come right out and ask my girls if they want any nude shots. If they say yes, I ask them how much they are comfortable showing and how provocative they want to be. Being a boudoir photographer is a unique profession to say the least.
There are many sub-categories of boudoir: Pin-up, retro, glamour, artistic nudes and even couples sessions, where the couple is photographed interacting in provocative ways. Guys are getting into the act with “doudoir” sessions. Doudoir is not a proper word but one that has been coined to describe a type of shoot. No one knew what to call this new phenomenon so somebody came up with the obvious, doudoir, and it stuck. Every photographer is familiar with the term by now. It has managed to find its way into the urban dictionary with this tongue in cheek description: ;-) “The male version of ladies boudoir photographic sessions, minus the lace stockings and lingerie (usually). These sessions have little to do with nudity, but more the seductive nature of the masculine form.” Guys out there that want doudoir photos taken, keep in mind that not all photographers are comfortable shooting these sessions. So when you call or email ask them right up front if they photograph males. Use the term doudoir, they will immediately understand. They may ask a few more questions to make sure it will be a comfortable experience for both parties. Yes we female photographers get some strange requests and we need to make sure you are not one of “those guys”. Below are a few examples of the different styles of boudoir. The first few are pin-up examples by Robert Alvarado, one of my favorite photographers. If you have never seen his work do yourself a favor and look him up on the internet. Robert isn’t only a talented artist, he is a nice guy too. ; -)
The softer traditional look most associate with boudoir. www.robinowen.com These photos by Arny Gunn push the limits of what we would consider boudoir. Yes Arny is right there on the edge but there is definitely a market for his type of work for the more daring client.
I hope this post has answered some of your questions about what boudoir is. Don’t be afraid to talk with photographers about what you are looking for in a shoot. Remember they usually don’t post their more risqué photos on line but that doesn’t mean they don’t shoot them.
