The first of these will be presented in Las Vegas during WPPI. The classes will be intimate, with no more than 5 attendees per class. Tips- Preparing For Your Boudoir Shoot-Boudoir photographer Robin Owen

Most women who contact me about boudoir photography have the same questions, so I thought I would start addressing them here on the blog. If you have a question about boudoir, see if I’ve addressed your concern in the comments below.

1. Can you hide scars, tattoos, acne and stretch marks? Yes, I use several tools in Photoshop to touch these up and then smooth your skin with a Photoshop action. I don’t like to over smooth the skin unless I’m going for a painted look like you will see in a lot of my retro pinup photography work. Real women don’t have plastic skin. Over-smoothing is a mistake I see a lot of unskilled photographers make as is over whitening the whites of the eyes.

2. Should I have a mani pedi before my shoot? Yes, and I suggest you chose a soft neutral color for your nail polish. I personally like french manicures because they look so elegant in pictures. I suggest you stay away from black, orange and anything florescent. Having clean, polished, pretty feet is also very important.

3. Can you thin my arms? Yes I can. This is a problem spot for a lot of women and relatively easy to fix in post production.

4. I don’t like my ______. Can you help me hide it? Yes, that is where creative posing and lighting come into play.

5. Should I tan before my shoot? No, fake tans and tan lines are not attractive. Photographers may charge you extra to even out severe tan lines. After the skin-smoothing action is applied, you won’t need a tan. Tans are one of the things boudoir photographers complain about most on my Boudoir Network website.

6. I don’t know how to pose can you help me with this? Yes, that is part of my job. You are not a model and I don’t expect you to know how to pose but it’s not a bad idea to use a mirror before your shoot and practice some poses you find online or in magazines. You can also look for posing videos on YouTube for some inspiration. One thing I see a lot of are girls who over pose with their mouth. They make odd pouty faces they think are sexy or look too serious in every image. Make natural expressions and smile a lot.

7. Should I whiten my teeth? Sure. That could be a very good idea if your teeth are yellowed and stained.
