How To Take Great Photos on Your Next Vacation

I recently took a little mini vacation to the Florida Keys to visit family and relax before my upcoming boudoir seminars in Las Vegas. Determined not to carry a lot of equipment while shooting around Key West I only took along my camera, a Nikon D3, with a speed light and  my Nikon 60mm 1:2.8 Macro lens. This lens is quickly becoming one of my very favorites and I own some nice Nikon glass. I paid about $350 for it used and it sat in my closet for a long time collecting dust until I pulled it out for a newborn session a few weeks ago. I love the images I can capture with this lens. It’s tack-sharp  and was perfect for close up shots of items for sale in the gift shops. Getting in close like this gives your vacation images a lot of impact. Move in tight and fill the frame with your subject. By using a high ISO and holding my camera steady I was able to capture the vibrant lights of the local businesses on Duval Street thereby creating memorable high impact images of my vacation.

Southern Maryland Children’s Photographer Robin Owen – Classic Timeless and Powerful Imagery

A powerful timeless story of love…
Every parent wants beautiful images of their precious new baby, but this photo shoot has a bit more of a story behind it. The father, Bryson, lost his brother in a motorcycle accident in 2010. Brock was only 22 years old. The accident devastated the family leaving a giant hole in their hearts. When my niece found out she was pregnant with a boy, they chose to name the baby after his late uncle. If you look at the tattoo on his father’s chest you will see his brother’s name there. I can almost see Brock smiling over his new nephew.
If you have a story to tell call me and together we will create powerful and moving images to celebrate the precious moments in your life.

Pictures With Santa – Southern Maryland Portrait Photographer Robin Owen

For those of you who don’t know, I shoot the covers for Healthy Living, the quarterly news magazine for St. Mary’s County Hospital. Yesterday I was at the Hospital working when Santa arrived to visit with all the children of the employees of the hospital. This shy little girl in her red Christmas dress caught my eye and I snapped a quick picture of her on Santa’s lap. I loved the image and wanted to share it with all of you. Have a Merry Christmas everyone!
