Waterfront Wedding Venue – Charming Place for Shabby Chic Style Weddings

This charming waterfront venue, which sits on the banks of Whites Neck Creek, is the inimitable Cheseldine House. The property lends itself perfectly to a romantic  shabby chic style or relaxed country wedding or reception. The Cheseldine House was built in 1904 by Captain Kelly Cheseldine, a local boat builder and waterman. The house is currently under renovation and is not open for rental at this time; however, two large porches are available for your use and tents can be set up on the front lawn. There is also a small 1920’s two-room cottage on the property. The cottage has been restored and is available as a waiting or dressing room for the bridal party. For brides on a budget the Cheseldine House is a very affordable and beautiful option.

The current owners are offering this gorgeous waterfront site for small outdoor weddings, receptions, corporate events and reunions. The property is located on Whites Neck Creek in Bushwood, Maryland, the northern area of St. Mary’s County.

To arrange for your personal tour of the property, and to find out more about pricing please call (301) 904-1175 or email cheseldinehouse@gmail.com.

Beautiful Children’s Portraits – Southern Maryland’s Top Portrait Photographer Robin Owen

Beautiful children’s portraits, when you’re looking for something more than Wal-mart! I like simple classic baby portraits.  These images below of Finley were printed on large canvases and will be hung in her nursery as a series. I would like to encourage parents to approach a professional photography session for their child as a way to capture a few stunning images to be used as fine art wall portraits, heirlooms that can be handed down through the generations.

Annmarie Garden and Art Center – Southern Maryland Wedding Venues

When I walked into the art center at Annmarie Gardens I was stunned. I had no idea such an amazing place existed in Calvert County, Maryland. Located near scenic Solomon’s Island, the art center is surrounded by a 30 acre sculpture garden. The garden features a 1/4 mile walking path that meanders through the woods past permanent and on loan sculpture from the Smithsonian Institution and National Gallery of Art
If you are an art lover, the stunning Arts Building, with its clean modern lines, could be the perfect venue for your Southern Maryland wedding. There is nothing else like in the Calvert, St. Mary’s or the Charles County area. The art center offers indoor and outdoor locations for rent including the unique stone council ring pictured below.
Annmarie Gardens is also a wonderful place to take family portraits and engagement photos. There are many beautiful spots along the 1/4 mile walking trail and, Azaleas are peppered throughout the woods adding splashes of vibrant color.

Southern Maryland Wedding Venues – Sotterley Plantation – Robin Owen Photography

This is the second post in a series of blog posts that will highlight the various wedding venues available in the tri-county area of Charles, St. Mary’s and Calvert County. I hope you will find these post helpful in your search for the perfect place to host your wedding or event.

If you live in Baltimore, Northern Virginia or Washington DC and are planning a wedding, but are finding the local wedding venues in your area a bit expensive and stuffy, you may want to consider beautiful Southern Maryland. Venues in our area are very reasonably priced and the event managers  work hard to make you feel welcome. Today I met with Linda Jones, the event manager for Sotterley, and walked the grounds of the gorgeous 300 year old plantation. The site offers breathtaking colonial revival gardens and sweeping views of the Patuxent River. Sotterley offers both indoor and outdoor wedding options and allows you to use vendors of your choice. It is also the perfect place to hold your next meeting, retreat, corporate event or family reunion. For more information visit their website .

How To Take Great Photos on Your Next Vacation

I recently took a little mini vacation to the Florida Keys to visit family and relax before my upcoming boudoir seminars in Las Vegas. Determined not to carry a lot of equipment while shooting around Key West I only took along my camera, a Nikon D3, with a speed light and  my Nikon 60mm 1:2.8 Macro lens. This lens is quickly becoming one of my very favorites and I own some nice Nikon glass. I paid about $350 for it used and it sat in my closet for a long time collecting dust until I pulled it out for a newborn session a few weeks ago. I love the images I can capture with this lens. It’s tack-sharp  and was perfect for close up shots of items for sale in the gift shops. Getting in close like this gives your vacation images a lot of impact. Move in tight and fill the frame with your subject. By using a high ISO and holding my camera steady I was able to capture the vibrant lights of the local businesses on Duval Street thereby creating memorable high impact images of my vacation.
