Southern Maryland Wedding Venues – Sotterley Plantation – Robin Owen Photography

This is the second post in a series of blog posts that will highlight the various wedding venues available in the tri-county area of Charles, St. Mary’s and Calvert County. I hope you will find these post helpful in your search for the perfect place to host your wedding or event.

If you live in Baltimore, Northern Virginia or Washington DC and are planning a wedding, but are finding the local wedding venues in your area a bit expensive and stuffy, you may want to consider beautiful Southern Maryland. Venues in our area are very reasonably priced and the event managers  work hard to make you feel welcome. Today I met with Linda Jones, the event manager for Sotterley, and walked the grounds of the gorgeous 300 year old plantation. The site offers breathtaking colonial revival gardens and sweeping views of the Patuxent River. Sotterley offers both indoor and outdoor wedding options and allows you to use vendors of your choice. It is also the perfect place to hold your next meeting, retreat, corporate event or family reunion. For more information visit their website .

I wanted to post a few more of my favorite images of Coale and JR Thompson. These images were not taken on their wedding day. We set up a separate photo session one fall evening so we would have time to capture beautiful intimate images of them two together as the sun was setting. Wedding days are always very hectic and rushed so a shoot like this is a marvelous idea.

Sotterley Plantation Wedding – Maryland Photographer Robin Owen

Anne Cullins and Wayne Davis had planned to be married on August 20, 2011 at the historic Sotterley Plantation located in beautiful Southern Maryland  but mother nature had her own ideas. Hurricane Irene was scheduled to hit St. Mary’s County on their wedding day! Because of the approaching hurricane  Anne had to rush and reschedule her entire wedding a day early. I don’t know how she did it in such a short amount of time but I was quite impressed. The wedding was elegant and beautiful. You would  have  never known she pulled it together in a matter of hours and she did it with such grace and poise, finding a solution to every obstacle that presented its self.  Anne and Wayne were an absolute pleasure to work with.  Here are a few images from the day and one of the flooding in Leonardtown the day after the storm.

On August 20, 2011 J.R. Thompson and Coale Bailey were married at beautiful historic Dent Chapel, located in Charlotte Hall Maryland. Dent Chapel is an impressive example of gothic architecture and the perfect backdrop for any Southern Maryland wedding. The bride and groom looked simply amazing on their big day and everything went off without a hitch. The Thompsons and Baileys are well known families in St. Mary’s County and I’m sure many of you have been anticipating me blogging their wedding photos. So without further ado, here you go. Enjoy!
